ToeJam & Earl secret islands

After reading this I was inspired to relive the fun and frustration of the classic Sega Genesis game “Toejam & Earl”. TJ&E is an early 90s hip-hop inspired game where you play as a couple of “funky” aliens who have crashed on Earth and must collect the pieces of their ship to return home.

After playing for a bit, I’ve come across some areas that I never knew existed:

Present Island: Level 1

Apart from a little island where you start, the first level is primarily made up of water. If you go swimming here to explore, you’ll end up drowning. However, if you come back to Level 1 after collecting some items like rocket skates, an innertube, wings, or anything that will enable you to get past a massive area of water, you’ll be able to reach the first hidden area, “Present Island”.

How to get there

From the starting point use an innertube, rocket skates, etc. and head towards the top-right area of the map. It doesn’t hurt to carry extra presents in case you get lost and have to use a second present to get across the water. Right before you reach the end of the map, you’ll come across a small island.

What’s there?

This island is full of some very useful presents (usually includes wings and always seems to include an ‘unfall’). Once you’ve collected all the items, you can head back towards the starting Level 1 island, or use an ‘unfall’ to go back to Level 2.

Hot Tub and Lemonade Stand: Level 0

The other island on Level 1 leads to the mysterious “Level 0″.

How to get there

Using the same method above to get to “Presents Island”, if you explore the bottom left corner of the first level’s map, you will eventually get to another little island. Instead of presents, this island only contains a pit. Drop down this pit and you will land in Level 0.

What’s there?

A small island in the middle of space with a lemonade stand and a hot tub with some hula girls. You can drink lemonade to fill up your life, and hang out in the hot tub. Other than that, not much else. Still, a cool little Easter egg. Drop off this island to return to Level 1.

Trixie’s Island: End game

After you beat the game, you return to TJ&E’s home planet of “Funkatron” where you can wander around. The main road leads to TJ&E’s families’ homes. They greet you and then “tHe ENd” is displayed on the screen. However, there is still more to explore.

How to get there

Water again. This time however, you won’t die so you can swim without a care in the world. Go to the right-most part of the screen and head down to the bottom-right. Eventually you’ll reach “Trixie’s Island”.

What’s there?

Trixie’s Island contains a couple of flag poles, and uh… “Trixie” who is a big green mermaid who is “ever so lonely”.

I played this game all the time on the saga i found the first two easter eggs but not the last. anyway thanks for the post stephen
