Let’s Halloween!
I was walking out of Xinzha Road metro station yesterday, when someone handed me what looked like a mini-CD. I thought it was odd because people handing out things on the street almost never approach foreigners directly (not me anyway). Once I had it in my hand, I realized it was just a cardboard promotional flyer… but I then realized why I was singled out.
Some company has opened an American Haunted House in Shanghai, dubbing the event SHANGHAI NIGHTMARE.
Apparently, entrance to the house will cost 98 RMB. However, if you want the VIP experience, it costs 198 RMB. For this extra 100 RMB you get to the front of the line, you get a t-shirt, and a vodka drink at the end.
According to their website:
Shanghai Nightmare 2009 opens September 25 until October 31. The terror begins nightly at 7PM*
How scary will it be? Well, the Shanghai owners did their research by attending “HauntCon” in Wisconsin (yes, there is an annual haunted house convention in the US). Also, according to their FAQ page:
Q: How scary is it?
A: This is the toughest question to answer because everyone is scared of different things but from initial feedback, our guests have said this is scarier than anything similar in China.
Q: What if I can’t take it anymore and want to get out?
A: Simply push through any door labeled “Emergency Exit” and you’ll be instantly out of the experience. In virtually every room, there is an emergency exit path. If you cannot find the nearest exit, simply raise your hand and scream “SAFETY!” and a staff member will escort you outside to safety.
Q: What if I’m too scared to go inside or don’t want to be frightened too much?
A: You can purchase a safety charm from us, our actors will not scare the person with the safety charm.
Sounds pretty damn scary to me. Let’s Halloween!
